Ministry: Political Parties May Delay Penalty Payments

Political parties told by the authorities to pay penalties for breaking party financing rules can apply for a 6-month moratorium and then pay the fines in instalments, the economy ministry said in a statement. The Hungarian opposition parties levied with the fines have all said they will refuse to pay up.

Attempts by factions in the European Parliament to shame and undermine Hungary are once again intensifying, government office chief János Lázár said at his weekly news briefing. A liberal EP group recently initiated a new hearing concerning Hungary, he noted, calling on all MEPs to show Hungarians respect and refrain from insulting them.

Sziget Festival, the Island of Freedom, has ended with the total number of 452.000 Szitizens attending the 7-day non-stop music & arts festival. The 25th Sziget had two sold-out days with an amazing crowd arriving from more than 100 countries.

HUF 5.5 Million For Hungarian Swimmer Hosszú

Three time Olympic champion Katinka Hosszú will receive Ft 5.5 million as do the winners of individual events, for winning a gold medal at the world aquatics championships. Ft 8 million is paid for breaking a world record.
