Buda’s Tanti restaurant has been stripped of its Michelin star in the food guide’s latest edition, the first Hungarian eatery to lose the distinction after gaining it. Four other Budapest restaurants retained their Michelin-star status. Costes was the first to receive the award in 2010, followed by Onyx one year later, Borkonyha in 2014 and Costes Downtown in 2016.

Gastronomes and gourmet connoisseurs need to note this name: Tamás Széll. The 34 year-old chef has won the Bocuse d’Or Europe 2016, the most prestigious reward in the world of European gastronomy. Wednesday, at Budapest, performing live in front of hundreds of enthusiastic supporters, Tamás Széll beat the other 19 participants thanks to his talent and creativity.

Costes DownTown has become the fifth Budapest restaurant to win a Michelin star in the gourmand guide’s latest edition. The eatery opened last June in the Prestige Hotel Budapest on Vigyázó Ferenc utca in the Fifth District. The winning chefs are Petra Tischler and Tiago Sabarigo.

It wasn’t dinner as usual in Sushi Sei on Bécsi út in the III District. Rather than the classic sushi affair, the Japanese restaurant in Óbuda had turned into a pop-up dinner dedicated to Japanese-fusion cuisine featuring the talents of two Hungarian chefs Róbert Kemény and Dénes Dlusztus, good friends since chef school, but currently working in London and Bergen, respectively.
