The first Budapest Circus Festival was held 20 years ago, in 1996 and as a result of the notion and casting of the professionals of the Hungarian Circus And Variety Non-profit Ltd. Democracy must be “cured of liberal dominance”, Fidesz MEP György Schöpflin said at a conference organised by the European People’s Party group in Budapest. It is time to end the rule of liberal values over Western democracy, Schöpflin said, arguing that the “liberal way of speaking” goes against its own professed set of values by regarding its views as “unquestionable”.
