Although originally planned under the Mere name after the chain announced its Hungarian debut in 2023, the store launches under Basket Plusz — the registered company remains the same, and the store’s logo and branding closely resemble those of the original chain.

Basket Plus promises a very broad selection of goods — from food and beverages to toys and electronics — presented in bulk or pallet-style packaging and often sourced from lesser-known European brands. Stock is expected to rotate quickly and selection may be limited during the opening days.

Operating daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, the store aims to follow the discount-store model familiar from other countries: low-cost basic groceries, minimal marketing, and occasional surprise deals appealing to bargain-hunters.

After months of speculation and delays, this marks the first time a Mere-style store is opening in Hungary, albeit under a different name — and shoppers will soon see how Basket Plus measures up to the original concept.
