State tourism promotion agency Magyar Turizmus will prepare videos and photographs of the most frequented areas of Budapest to show that Hungary is still a secure tourism destination, despite the “misleading” news in the global media showing thousands of Syrian refugees marching through the city last week, deputy CEO Tamás Glázer announced.

The interior ministry has proposed that the Hungarian government declare a state of crisis in light of the massive influx of migrants, which will be discussed at next Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, government office chief János Lázár told a press conference. Lázár said that findings by the national security cabinet indicate that organised crime and the threat of terrorism are on the rise in Hungary.

A top tourism official has issued reassurances that Hungary remains safe and that local authorities can guarantee the security of all tourists who arrive in the country.
