Hungary aims to establish itself as a hub and supporter of organisations fighting the persecution of Christians, human resources state secretary Bence Rétvári said at an international conference about the persecution of Christians around the world held in Budapest on Friday.

Gábor Vona, leader of the radical nationalist Jobbik party, said in Corvin Alley, a stronghold of revolutionaries in 1956, that the freedom fighters had drawn their strength from the patriotic interwar regime of Miklós Horthy. He said the 1956 revolution was “the most noble act” in Europe’s postwar history.

Gábor Czene of Népszabadság conducted an interview with Tamás Fabiny, bishop of the northern district of the Hungarian Lutheran Church. Fabiny was ordained in Erlangen, Germany in 1982. He also studied in the United States. In addition to his church activities he worked for Duna TV. Since 2010 he has been the vice chairman of the Lutheran World Federation.
