Budapest Pride Festival began on 3 July with the official opening ceremony! This year’s motto "Empowered by 20 years” allows us take a look back at the past two decades of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) tradtions, and refers to the power of the community, its (self) organization and presence, which can be the only way to achieve equal rights and social justice.

Sopron’s popular Volt Festival began earlier this week with the traditional “0th day” warm-up programme. This is one of the most multicultural festivals in Central Europe, welcoming guests to party in the middle of a fabulous forest every June. Budapest’s Metropolitan Grand Circus may have to say goodbye to its current location – adjacent to Budapest Zoo in the city’s largest park Városliget – under current plans. According to information obtained by cink.hu, the options of rebuilding the Grand Circus’s dilapidated building and erecting a new circus in a different location will both be discussed this month by the government.
