The State Opera will premier 15 new productions next season, music director Domonkos Héja told reporters on Tuesday. The first new production at the reopened Erkel Theatre will be Zoltán Kodály’s János Háry, debuting on October 6.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán inaugurated the new Budapest Music Center in Budapest on Saturday night. The Center includes several studios, an auditorium, music library, information centre, study room, jazz club and restaurant.

The Erkel Theatre will re-open for a trial run in early March as its Ft 1.8 billion renovation is still under way, culture state secretary László L. Simon told reporters on Thursday. The theatre will not be officially dedicated until November 7, the birthday of composer Ferenc Erkel, and Hungarian Opera Day.

"The Pest German Theatre opened on what is now Vörösmarty Square on 9 February 1812, with two plays by Kotzebue, for which the music was composed by Beethoven. The idea for the establishment of the theatre arose during the reign of Josef II, as Pest was gaining in importance and the growing bourgeoisie had an increasing demand for culture.
