The 143rd season bears the title A Season of Eastern Tales and will feature 12 premieres including Salome by Richard Strauss, Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly and The Troubadour by Giuseppe Verdi, he said.
The world premiere of Mate Bella's Passion will take place around Easter, Okovacs said.
The Opera will also stage Hary Janos by Zoltan Kodaly, almost to the day on the centenary of its world premiere, he said.
To mark the centenary, Kodaly's work will also be highlighted in the season, with performances of Szekely Fono (The Spinning Room) and a concert compiling Kodaly's works on the national holiday on October 23, he said.
The Opera will also hold non-scenic productions of Tosca, Bluebeard's Castle, Don Giovanni and Rigoletto, he said.
Ballett Director Tamas Solymosi said a record 148 ballett performances are planned for next season, including The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, as well as -- connected to the season's theme -- La Bayadere, Le corsaire and The Fountain of Bakhchisarai.
Artistic Director Andras Almasi-Toth said world-renowned artists gracing the Budapest Opera next season will include soprano Anna Netrebko, tenor Placido Domingo, soprano Diana Damrau and baritone Rene Pape, among others.
