"That is unique," was supposedly the cry raised by Joseph II, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary in 1790, when he tasted the pleasant herb mixture prepared by his Court physician, Dr Zwack. The name of the Hungarian tonic bitters known as Zwack Unicum is allegedly derived from this remark.

When I stepped off the plane in Hungary with my guidebook in hand, Kehli was one of the first restaurants I discovered, located in the oldest part of Buda. It first opened in 1899 as a small family-style restaurant, serving hearty, traditional Hungarian food and has developed since then.
