Hungary's Fidesz Proposes Constitutional Court Changes

The Constitutional Court will be required to review all past rulings in light of the new Basic Law, under a proposal put forward by the Fidesz executive. Fidesz executive vice-president Lajos Kosa indicated that Parliament will approve the amendments in the spring.

Speaking on the “Az Este” TV programme, he hailed the outcome as a great success for Hungary, as the April decision on suspending funds was “unfair”.

Janos Ader was born in Csorna, Gyor county on May 9, 1959. He completed Revai Miklos Grammar School in Gyor in 1977, and obtained a law degree at ELTE faculty of law in 1983. For a year he worked as a law clerk on a city council and from 1986 to 1990 he worked at the Sociology Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

All Fidesz and Christian Democrat MPs signed the form to nominate Fidesz MEP János Áder to the post of head of state, which was officially submitted yesterday. The lone exception was Regional Development Minister Sándor Fazekas, who is abroad. Other nominations are possible by 8 a.m. Friday, but none are expected. Parliament will elect the new president at 10 a.m. on May 2.
