Fast-Track IT Degree Launches Through University–Vocational Partnership in Hungary
- 10 Feb 2026 12:07 PM
Announcing the initiative on Monday, Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó said the “three-in-one” training model combines vocational education with higher education, allowing students to gain a recognised university degree while building strong practical skills.
Under the agreement, BME will recognise 60 credits from vocational studies, enabling students to complete an IT engineering BProf degree in two years instead of the standard three.
The programme is part of a broader effort to strengthen links between Hungary’s vocational training system and universities, responding to labour market demand in sectors such as information technology, engineering and applied sciences.
The BProf degree is designed to be more practice-focused than traditional bachelor programmes, making graduates job-ready more quickly.
Hankó noted that Hungarian vocational education currently ranks third in the European Union, while BME is among the top 2 percent of universities worldwide and is listed within the top 250 higher education institutions in Europe.
The minister said the combination of strong vocational foundations and internationally recognised academic training is intended to improve competitiveness and workforce outcomes.
Applications for the new programme are open until 15 February.
For expat families and international students in Hungary, the initiative reflects a growing emphasis on flexible education pathways that bridge hands-on training and higher education, particularly in high-demand technical fields.
