Chief organizer Károly Eisenkrammer noted that Gyula will host the team presentation on May 12, followed by stage one from Gyula to Békéscsaba on a sprinter-friendly route the next day. Stage two, also flat, runs from Szarvas to Paks, and stage three from Kaposvár to Szekszárd should end in a field sprint.
The queen stage starts in Mohács to mark the 500th anniversary of one of Hungary’s most significant battles. Riders will climb Bárány Street in Pécs four times before finishing at the zoo.
The final stage begins in Balatonalmádi and ends in Veszprém after an unpredictable route reminiscent of Belgian one-day races.
Máriusz Révész, State Secretary for Active Hungary, said the race has improved yearly since its 2015 relaunch. He hopes more coaches will train the next generation soon and stressed the value of Hungary maintaining continental and pro-continental teams long-term.
He also outlined ambitions like promoting the Tour de Hongrie to World Tour status, holding stages abroad, launching a Hungarian women’s race, and hosting the Tour de France’s grand start in Hungary.
Gábor Schmidt, Deputy State Secretary for Sports Administration and Sports Development, described the Tour de Hongrie as an impressive brand with great atmosphere, endurance, speed, strength, and momentum. He said such events boost Hungary’s image and showcase the country, now serving as a key tourist draw.
Domonkos Schneller, president of the Hungarian Cycling Federation (MKSZ), called last year’s race a success for Hungarian riders. He highlighted MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort’s pro-continental status and the Hungarian circuit race’s Pro Series ranking (second tier below World Tour) as major opportunities. Schneller hopes recent Hungarian winner Attila Valter and last year’s seventh-place finisher Bálint Feldhoffer will return, with the national team also starting.
