The U.S. Embassy in Budapest is saddened by the news of the passing of Ambassador Mark Palmer, who served as United States Ambassador to Hungary between 1986 and 1990, following a long struggle with cancer. A champion for freedom, Ambassador Palmer took up his duties in the last years of the Communist era, and played a highly visible role during the regime change.

I'm 37 and was brought up in Glasgow, Scotland where after finishing school I made my way into deepest darkest Central Europe as an 18 year-old to teach English in Transylvania for a year. One university degree in translation and interpreting later (back in Edinburgh) I came out to Budapest to be with my fiancée. That was some 15 years ago now.

Hasan Kemal Gür was born in Hopa, a tiny little town on the Black Sea Coast, near to the Turkish-Georgian border. H. Kemal Gür joined the Turkish Foreign Service in 1973. Since then, he has served in several capacities in Australia, China, Greece, Germany, Georgia and Pakistan.

Having first heard about a museum for the blind in the UK over 20 years ago, I was intrigued by the Invisible Exhibition (Lathatatlan Kiallitas) that has been touring Hungary for some time, and is now hosted in Building B at the Millenaris Park. We first met Misi (our guide), who showed us how to write braille on a peg board and then on a typewriter-type machine... Braille letters are constructed ...
Congestion Charge In Budapest By 2015?

On Tuesday this week Budapest Mayor Tarlós announced that motorists will have to pay to enter Budapest by 2015. Speaking on Hungarian HírTV he justified the action by blaming the Socialists, claiming they signed an undertaking to this effect when negotiating EU subsidies for the forthcoming M4 metro line - which is due for completion in 2014 at earliest.
