German-Language Film Festival in Budapest, 9 - 19 October
- 6 Oct 2025 12:12 PM
The festival will open on the evening of October 9 at the Puskin Cinema with the film Marielle Knows Everything, which received a special award at the Berlinale.
The film is about a girl who has special telepathic abilities - and thanks to them there are no secrets between her and her parents - reads the information sent to MTI.
After the screening, the audience can meet one of the film's characters, German actor Mehmet Ateşçi, who studied acting at the Zurich University of the Arts, was a permanent member of the Maxim Gorky Theater in Berlin for a long time, and has been a member of the Burgtheater in Vienna since 2019.
On October 10, the Művész Cinema will screen Germany's Oscar nominee and the drama The Sound of Falling, which won the Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. In Mascha Schilinski's work, a Saxon farm is home to a story spanning a hundred years, which unfolds through the fates of four women.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with screenwriter Louise Peter. The German screenwriter studied theater, film and media studies in Vienna, and then acting in Berlin. Later, she studied screenwriting at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.
Piet Baumgartner's film Dance of the Machines, which won the award for best new director in San Sebastián last year, will be screened on October 11. The Swiss filmmaker's film features people who have difficulty talking about their emotions and "dancing" machines.
After the screening, the audience can meet Phil Hayes, an English-Swiss actor, theater director and musician who plays the father. The adventurous artist - who has worked in restaurants, pubs, factories, radio, television and construction sites - has lived in Zurich since 1998.
On October 16, Austria's Oscar nominee Bernhard Wenger's Peacock - Am I Real? will be screened, in which Matthias works for an agency where clients can hire an escort for a variety of occasions.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with psychologist Krisztián Indries about the psychological and sociological aspects of the Rent a Friend service, which is the basis of the film.
On October 17, the Austrian tragicomic road movie 80 Plusz, which is about euthanasia and freedom at the end of life, and became the most watched film in Austria last year, will be shown.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with bioethicist and philosopher László Nemes about the philosophical and ethical aspects of end-of-life issues.
Finally, on October 18, those interested will be able to see the opening film of this year's Berlinale, Tom Tykwer's The Light.
According to the information, the German filmmaker said of his new work, "In The Light, the characters argue, struggle and fight, but they also laugh, sing and dance. Although they are separated from each other, they still belong together."
After the screening, the audience will be able to meet actress Thea Ehre, who won the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Actress at the 2023 Berlinale for her performance in the film Bis ans Ende der Nacht, the statement says.
