Slovak border police shot and wounded a Syrian refugee yesterday as the car she was riding in failed to stop. The 26-year-old woman was operated on at Dunajska Streda hospital and the bullet was removed from her body. She was listed in a stable condition.

Every year the number of people infected by the HIV virus has been rising in Hungary, the daily Magyar Nemzet said, quoting an infectologist. Around 300 new cases are registered each year, János Szlávik, chief consultant at St István and St László hospitals, said, adding that currently 1,700 people have to be screened regularly for HIV.
