Last weekend marked the annual National Gallop on Budapest’s Heroes’ Square as one of the city’s main attractions was taken over by jockeys and horses. At the end it was János Németh from the Southern town of Baja who won the finals of the 8th National Gallop, winning the cup as well as the 5 million HUF cash prize and an original Hungarian hussar sabre dated back to the mid-19th century.

I think the one thing most expats miss in Hungary is the sea, and perhaps not only the expats. Driving into the country the other day I saw on the one billboard blank of ads and propaganda someone had written: Now that we have a Mediterranean climate couldn’t we have a sea as well?
