Commenting on the US State Department’s religion report, government spokesman Zoltán Kovács said the government had been unable to change the church law because of a lack of support from the opposition on the law that required two-thirds majority support in parliament. Twenty-five police officers sent from Slovakia at Hungary’s request to help patrol the border with Serbia were welcomed at a ceremony in Budapest.
