Presenting the EU Commission’s spring economic forecast on Friday, Olli Rehn, the EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro, announced that three countries – Romania, Lithuania and Latvia – are on track to exit the excessive deficit procedure (EDP), but that Hungary and Italy would need to do more to trim the budget deficit below three percent of GDP in 2013 and 2014.

Hungary received 9.6% more foreign tourists in January, who spent 8.3% more nights in paid accommodation than in the same month of last year, the Central Statistics Office reports. There was a 3.1% rise in the number of domestic tourists, who spent 1.4% more guest nights in hotels. visitors from the UK rose 49.2%, read on for more details.

The number of guest nights in Hungary rose 4.9% to 993,000 in January from the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. The increase slowed from an 8.2% rise in December.
