The European Commission (EC) has given the green light to a cross-border cooperation programme between Hungary and Austria worth 30 billion forints (EUR 95m). The commission Interreg funds will cover 78 million euros. The economy ministry has set a quota for the number of non-European Union citizens that can be employed in Hungary, a decision published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows. According to the new legal regulation, the number of non- EU citizens employed in Hungary simultaneously must not exceed the monthly average labour demand reported in the previous year.

Hungary’s supreme court has decided that the real life sentence without parole can be maintained in Hungary. The Kúria referred to case law considered by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and related Constitutional Court rulings. The ruling Fidesz party welcomed the decision, saying that maintaining the possibility of the real life sentence was a government achievement.
