Motorway Vignette Sales for 2026 Start in Hungary
Sales of Hungary’s 2026 motorway vignettes began on December 8, 2025, and by December 14 around 23,000 annual vignettes had already been sold, the National Toll Payment Service (NÚSZ) said on Tuesday. This includes 8,500 nationwide passes, 13,000 county passes, and 1,500 passes restricted to the M1 motorway.

These vignettes are required for travelling on Hungary’s tolled motorways and expressways. Without a valid e-vignette, drivers risk significant fines under the country’s toll system.

Where to Buy

You can purchase your Hungarian motorway vignette:

  • Online at the official toll portal: the National Toll Payment Service website (nemzetiutdij.hu) offers direct, secure e-vignette sales.

  • From authorised online resellers: sites such as Autovignet or Tollhopper allow payment by card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay with instant confirmation.

  • In person: vignettes can also be bought at many border crossings, petrol stations, and retail kiosks before entering toll roads.

Motorists must buy the e-vignette before entering paid sections of motorways and expressways — retroactive purchases aren’t accepted.

2026 Vignette Prices (D1 Category – Passenger Cars)

The prices below apply to the 2026 toll year and are inclusive of VAT:

  • Daily vignette: ~5,550 Ft (~€14)

  • 10-day (weekly) vignette: ~6,900 Ft (~€18)

  • Monthly vignette: ~11,170 Ft (~€29)

  • Annual nationwide vignette: ~61,760 Ft (~€162)

  • Annual county vignette: ~7,190 Ft (~€19)

  • Discounted county vignette (e.g., Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén): ~2,500 Ft (~€6.50)

  • New M1 regional annual vignette: ~15,000 Ft (~€40) — covers the M1 corridor across multiple counties.

Prices vary by vehicle category — e.g., larger cars and vans (D2) pay higher rates — and different resellers may list both forint and euro prices.

Validity and Enforcement

Once purchased online or at a point of sale, the e-vignette is linked electronically to the vehicle’s licence plate — no physical sticker is required. Enforcement is handled via automatic licence plate recognition on the motorway network.

Drivers should ensure they hold a valid vignette before entering toll roads; failure to do so can result in hefty fines.

Hungary uses automatic licence plate recognition on toll roads. Driving without a valid vignette may lead to fines ranging from 18,600 HUF (€49) to 74,400 HUF (€198) depending on the situation.
