The UN refugee agency told MTI it was “deeply concerned” by the proposed amendments to Hungary’s laws on asylum submitted to parliament earlier this week. The majority of Hungarians reject illegal migrants regardless of party affiliation, a survey carried out by Nézőpont on commission from weekly Heti Válasz between June 19 and 25 showed. The representative survey was conducted by phoning 1,000 people and 76% of them said that illegal migrants posed a problem for Hungary, Nézőpont said.

The ruling Fidesz decree passed with 140 MPs in favour and 14 against and 27 abstentions.
