Austrian officials will work with Hungary on the issue of illegal “pocket contracts” on the sale of farmland, Regional Development Ministry state secretary Gyula Budai revealed on Wednesday. Such contracts – designed to circumvent the ban on the sale of farmland to foreigners – are to be classified as a crime, Budai announced on the weekend.

All Fidesz and Christian Democrat MPs signed the form to nominate Fidesz MEP János Áder to the post of head of state, which was officially submitted yesterday. The lone exception was Regional Development Minister Sándor Fazekas, who is abroad. Other nominations are possible by 8 a.m. Friday, but none are expected. Parliament will elect the new president at 10 a.m. on May 2.
