Hungary’s population decline accelerated in 2015 as the number of births rose less than in 2014 and the number of deaths increased after a decline in the previous year, the Central Statistical Office reported on Tuesday. Preliminary figures show the number of live births rose 0.2% to 91,700.

In the first seven months of the year 52,235 babies were born, 352 or 0.7% more than in the same period of last year. However, the number of deaths totalled 78,709, which exceeded the figures of January-July 2014 by 5,163, or 7.0%.
