China’s BBCA Group will probably cancel its plans to build a citric acid factory in Szolnok as Hungary has not fulfilled its duties and has not made its required financial contribution, Napi Gazdaság reports. BBCA is looking for an alternative location, possibly Miskolc or a site in Veszprém county, but possibly also Belgium.
EU Objects To Tax Exemption For Pálinka In Hungary

The European Commission yesterday asked Hungary to change its regulation that gives a full excise tax exemption to those who brew pálinka for personal use. EU legislation allows a 50% tax allowance, but Hungary grants a 100% exemption to distillers who produce no more than 50 litres of fruit brandy a year.

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) has published earlier today GDP data in line with preliminary figures in its detailed release. In Q1 2012 the Hungarian economy – due primarily to negative external market developments – contracted by 0.7 percent.

Hungarian governments in the last twenty years combined have not done as much for preventing and reducing corruption and for achieving accountability as the government currently in office has in the past two years. We acknowledge with regret that this fact has been omitted from the organisation’s report, and we are therefore unable to embrace or agree with most of its findings.
