'Strictest Anti-Drug Law Ever': How's Hungary Doing in New War on Illicit Drugs?
There is no place in Hungary for either the illicit drug industry or drug-related crime, the government commissioner for eliminating drug trafficking said in a social media post on Thursday, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

"Drugs only bring destruction, violence, fear and crime, which is why we amended the Fundamental Law and declared that it is forbidden to produce, distribute, use and promote drugs in Hungary," Laszlo Horvath said. "That is why we enacted the strictest anti-drug law of all time on June 15."

He noted that since the beginning of March, police have been on a "manhunt" against drug traffickers, and so far more than 3,600 criminal proceedings have been initiated, over half a tonne of drugs, more than 250 million forints (EUR 623,000) in cash, real estate worth over 100 million forints and more than 100 vehicles used for drug trafficking have been seized.

"On the International Day against Drug Abuse and every other day of the year, let us say a big, firm no to drugs. On behalf of the government, let me thank all police officers, civil guards, health-care and social workers and everyone who helps sweep drugs out of Hungary and helps protect our children," the government commissioner said.
