Bad Weather Has Devastating Effect on Apple Crop in Hungary
Spring frost and drought conditions are expected to reduce this year's apple crop to 160,000 tonnes, just half of last year's weak harvest, the National Agricultural Chamber and growers association FruitVeB said.

Local orchards could produce 60,000-80,000 tonnes of fresh apples and 80,000-100,000 tonnes of industrial apples that are processed or used for juice.

Apples are grown on around 20,000 hectares in Hungary, half the area 20 years earlier. Jonagold, Idared, Gala, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious are popular varieties locally.
