The Hungarian Hospital Association supports introducing paid-for services in state hospitals, the association’s president said in business daily Napi Gazdaság’s Thursday edition. Demand for services provided in the private health-care market has increased in recent years, György Velkey told the paper. Introducing paid-for care would greatly benefit underfinanced state hospitals, he said.

Hungary is launching a 12 billion forint (EUR 39m) national brain research programme to promote research, prevention, innovation, health-care and drug development. Deputy State Secretary for Tourism Dr Viktória Horváth held a presentation at a professional conference on the key development priorities of Hungarian health tourism and the National Tourism Development Concept (2012-2024) which is currently under social consultation. The Government plans to increase by 2024 the share of the tourism sector within Hungary’s GDP to as much as 10 percent.

Hungary is starting hospital developments with about 60 billion forints (EUR 200m) in European Union support, Minister of State for Healthcare Miklós Szócska said on Sunday. Almost 50 billion forints will go to at least 60 institutions to help them take on new responsibilities after a re-allocation of tasks last year, he stated.
