Third 'Musical Road' in Hungary Plays Popular Song

József Pántya mentioned that since 2015, 45 kilometers of dual carriageways have been built or upgraded on Route 21 between Hatvan and Salgótarján.
Many elements of the overall road improvement project are either finished or close to completion. Near Pásztó, new bus shelters and CCTV cameras have been installed, along with 46 park-and-ride spaces and 50 bicycle storage facilities.
As the "crowning achievement" of these upgrades, a 550-meter stretch of road between Hatvan and Lőrinci now offers motorists a unique experience. By driving at 80 km/h, a fragment of the song "Nélküled" by the band Ismerős Arcok can be heard.
Zsolt Becsó, Fidesz MP and the project's initiator, highlighted in his speech that this musical stretch marks the completion of 25 years of improvements to Route 21. He noted that for 8-10 years prior to 2010, the road—despite being a major regional priority - had not received adequate government attention.
However, over the past 14 years, the route, which connects Slovakia and Hungary, has been revitalized, integrating the surrounding regions into Hungary’s and Central and Eastern Europe's economic network.
The entire project, commissioned by the Ministry of Construction and Transport and executed by HE-DO Építő Zrt., cost nearly HUF 1.77 billion (EUR 4.5 million).
This budget covered the installation of bus shelters, pedestrian crossings, parking areas, bike storage, cameras, a wildlife fence, the cleanup of the Hidegvölgy watercourse, and the design and construction of the musical road.
Hungary's first musical road was opened on Route 67 in 2019, where drivers can hear "A 67-es út" by the Hungarian rock band Republic while driving at 80 km/h between Mernye and Mernyeszentmiklós (southwestern Hungary).
A second musical road was inaugurated in 2022 in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, as part of a broader reconstruction of Route 37. A 10-kilometer section is being completed between Újharangod and Bekec (northeastern Hungary), which features a stretch that plays the Hungarian folk song "Érik a szőlő."
