The International Monetary Fund raised its forecast for Hungary’s economic growth in its Regional Economic Issues report. Growth could reach 2.7% this year according to the new report. The forecast was raised from 2.3% in the previous report published in October 2014. For 2016, the IMF expects growth of 2.3%.

EP CTTEE Hears MEP Béla Kovács To Assess Suspending Immunity

The European Parliament’s legal committee on Wednesday heard MEP Béla Kovács, of the radical nationalist Jobbik party, behind closed doors in a case involving the potential suspension of his immunity. Last year Péter Polt, Hungary’s public prosecutor, asked EP president Martin Schultz to suspend Kovács’s immunity on suspicion that the Jobbik politician spied against European Union institutions.
Opposition Parties Against Tasers For Parlt Guard

Several opposition parties have spoken out against Parliamentary Speaker László Kövér’s decision to equip the Parliamentary Guard with electroshock weapons or tasers. The radical nationalist Jobbik party said it was “baffled” by Kövér’s decision to purchase tasers for more than 10 million forints (EUR 33,000).
SCP Raises Hungary Mid-Term Economic Growth Projection

Ratings agency Standard and Poor’s has raised its projection for Hungary’s mid-term GDP growth to 2.5% from 2%. The projection is the same as the government’s official 2.5% forecast for this year.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in parliament has dismissed a Socialist proposal to cut value-added tax on some products and called the opposition party “hypocritical”. The Socialists want to reduce “the very VAT which they raised high-sky”, Orbán insisted, responding to a proposal by Socialist MP Zoltán Gőgös to reduce VAT on products rather than cutting personal income tax in 2016.

Three men who held up the flag of Hungary’s wartime fascist Arrow-Cross party were yesterday banned from all Hungarian professional football matches for periods of two to four years by the Capital Court. The incident occurred after the FTC-Újpest first-division game at the Puskás Ferenc Stadium on September 22, 2013 in the presence of nearly 1,000 fans and police.
