The Capital Court of Appeals is expected to issue its verdict today in the trial on war crimes charges of Communist-era interior minister Béla Biszku. According to the indictment Biszku, now 94, took part in running the law enforcement agency after the 1956 Uprising was crushed. Members of the agency fired on civilians, killing three at Nyugati train station on December 6, 1956.

Hungary is in the running to become home to the new eastern European plant of UK carmaker Jaguar Land Rover, according to the Financial Times. JLR, owned by India’s Tata group, is finalising plans for the new factory and has drawn up a shortlist of four host countries: Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the paper said, citing several people familiar with the matter.

Boggie – finished in twentieth place with her song “Wars For Nothing” at the finals of the sixtieth Eurovision Song Festival held in Vienna, Austria, yesterday evening. The contest was won by Swedish performer Måns Zelmerlöw’s song Heroes. Hungary received 19 points, while the winning Sweden got 365.

Normal service will resume on Budapest’s 4 and 6 tram lines from Sunday as the track renovation works that began in March will be completed. Trams have not been running between Széll Kálmán tér and Oktogon. The upgrade of the tracks is expected to speed up tram services.
