More and more Germans are moving to the Lake Balaton area in Hungary due to their dissatisfaction with the German government’s asylum policy and a fear of migrants, German public service broadcaster Bayerische Rundfunk (BR) said. BR quoted several real estate agents from around the Balaton area as saying that they have noticed a surge in German clients since last September.

Snowfall caused disruptions throughout Hungary on Monday. Road accidents were many and trains were delayed, though no flight cancellations were reported from Budapest’s international Liszt Ferenc airport. Runways at the airport are being continually cleared of snow and only minor departure delays are expected due to time taken to defrost aircraft, Budapest Airport spokesman Mihály Hardy said.

The new national record for September 1 of 36.9C was gauged at Dombegyháza, Békés county, beating the previous high of 35.2C, recorded only three years ago in Körösszakál. The new Budapest record is 35.4C measured in Újpest, up from 34.1C in 1942.
