Pear Harvest Disaster in Hungary
Hungary's pear harvest is expected to reach a ten-year low this season because of unfavourable weather, an analysis published by the National Agricultural Chamber (NAK) and growers' association FruitVeB published shows.

The analysis pointed to a continuous deterioration in the conditions of pear orchards, reducing harvest potential.

There are 1,886 hectares of pear orchards in Hungary. The pear harvest ranges between 15,000 and 30,000 tonnes a year. Between 20pc and 40pc is sold for processing. Williams pears account for half of the pears grown in Hungary, but growers also produce notable volumes of Abate Fetel and Alexander pears.
