I’ve long been a supporter of British lifesavers. Ever since I briefly was a lifesaver myself as a student holiday job. And recently I’ve become a trustee of the Lifeboat Fund in the UK. So I’ve been looking for a chance to pick up that cause now that I’m here in Hungary. I’m very pleased to say I’ve found it.

British Ambassador to Hungary Jonathan Knott is preparing for a charity swim across the Lake Balaton. The high ranking UK diplomat will swim 5200 meters from Révfülöp to Balatonboglár on 6 July with the aim of raising funds for the Hungarian National Lifesavers Service Association (VMSZ) and its British sister agency, the Royal National Lifesavers Institute (RNLI).

The foundation stone of a new stadium for Ferencváros football FTC was laid on Thursday. The new facility is to be completed by the autumn of 2014. Until then FTC will play its home games at the Puskás Ferenc Stadium.
