Costes Restaurant In Budapest Has Been Awarded A Michelin Star
Up until now only one Central European restaurant pride itself with the most prestigious award in the catering sector.

According to this year’s publication of the Michelin Guide Costes Restaurant in Ráday street has been awarded one star - published the blog called Otthon, édes. Previously only one restaurant in Central Europe has been rewarded a Michelin star, the Allegro Restaurant of Fours Seasons Hotel in Prague. Besides Costes five other Hungarian restaurants have been given the Bib Gourmand classification, for example 21, Arcade Bistro, Bock Bisztro and Csalogány 26.

Károly Gerendai, the owner of the restaurant told [origo] that he did not expect this award, as Miguel Vieira, the previous chef had just been replaced by Nicolas Delgado from Argentina. Gerendai said they knew that an inspector of Michelin Guide visited the restaurant in January, but they did not expect to be included in this year’s Guide already. The owner believes the award will result in having more foreign guests and therefore the return will increase.

Károly Gerendai was awarded the Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary as well this week. He said it did not turn his brain. It has been a lucky week, but the award given to Costes means that from now on they will have to use their every effort to keep the star or to gain even more – he said.

Anastasious Tomasz, the manager of Costes earlier told [origo] that long inspections are taking place before a star is awarded. These inspections are never announced beforehand and a given restaurant is visited on a number of occasions in order to find out that quality is maintained. After the employees of Michelin visited Costes recently they had a discussion lasting almost for two hours with the owner, the manager and the chef.

Tomasz explained that the Michelin star is not awarded for a certain period of time but forever, provided that the same quality is guaranteed. The recognition can be withdrawn at any time, even in less than a week.

Inspectors visit approximately 250 restaurants annually, and restaurants and hotels of 43 cities of 20 European countries are included in their publication, the Main Cities. The meaning of the stars is the follows:
• 1 star means that if the restaurant is on your way, you should stop, it serves very good food.
• 2 stars indicate the restaurant deserves even a long detour.
• 3 stars are given to restaurants that merit a special trip.
