State-Media Assets Into State Ownership In Hungary
"Many assets of the state-run media MTV, Magyar Rádió, Duna TV and MTI will be transferred to state ownership as of January 1, 2011 under an amendment motion Fidesz submitted to Parliament on Monday.

The motion of MPs András Cser-Palkovics and Antal Rogán amends a point in the media package that the House passed this summer.

Ownership rights and duties will be exercised by the Programme Provision Supporting and Asset Management Fund, which will be managed by the planned Media Council.

The Public Service Public Foundation will manage the assets remaining in the ownership of the state media, receiving advice from the CEOs of the state-run media outlets.

Parliament meanwhile established an ad hoc committee to nominate media council members. Its chairman is András Cser-Palkovics of Fidesz, its deputy chairman Socialist Attila Mesterházy, and its members Christian Democrat István Pálffy, Jobbik’s Sándor Pörzse and Gergely Karácsony of Politics Can Be Different (LMP).

The committee will propose four members to be elected onto the media council along with its president for a nine-year term next Monday. Media authority chief Annamária Szalai is the favourite to get the top post."
