Barka International Theater Festival, Budapest
"The festival started out in its present form in the autumn of 2006, the one staged in the November of 2009 is going to be the fourth occasion. The Bárka Festival is another step on the road taken two decades ago by the Studio Theatre Festival of Gödöllő. This journey continued in Budapest in 2001 due to the initiation of the Bárka Theatre.

2006 was the year of change: since then the audience may get acquainted with productions from abroad instead of the performances of Hungarian studio theatres. These foreign productions, moreover, are of outstanding quality as our policy for this low-budget enterprise was to invite less, but certainly remarkable productions to Budapest. The list of the invited, the interest of the audience and the profession has validated our concept.

Thanks to the Bárka Festival, in the last three years we have seen pieces directed by Alvis Hermanis, József Nagy, Luk Perceval, Dmitrij Krimov, Oskaras Korsunovas, Andrej Mogucsij in Budapest. The festival is statement for making Hungary a scene for a regular international theatre festival.

The demand for this was proved by the success of the Theatre Union Meeting - which was twice moved to Budapest -, the Thealter Meeting organised in Szeged since years, the annually held Contemporary Drama Festival, the dunaPart Platform project started out in the autumn of 2008 and the emerging Shakespeare Festival of Gyula.

Programme:

9th nov. - Sentimental play for four actors – director: Piotr Cieplak (Warsaw)
10th nov. - Prometheus – director: Gábor Katona (Temesvár)
