Proposals Abound, Potential Investors Scarce In Push To Start New National Airline In Hungary
"Three different groups are working on establishing a new national airline, but there are no investors in the wings, news website Origo reports. Magyar Nemzet writes that the government is also studying the prospects for launching a successor to Malév, which stopped operating a month ago.

Time is running out and there is an increasingly small chance of finding an investor willing to come up with the necessary Ft 10-15 billion funding, according to Origo.

Tamás Déri, a former Malév CEO and owner of travel group Tensi, confirmed reports that his team has worked out a concept, but gave no details. The plan calls for minority state ownership in a new national carrier.

A group consisting mostly of Malév executives has also come up with a proposal to revive a Hungarian flag carrier.
There is a government official in the team, but that does not necessarily guarantee any government support for the project, an anonymous source told Origo.

The cost of setting up an airline operating with ten aircraft is Ft 10-15 billion. Malév, before it went broke, had 22 aircraft.

Mihály Vécsei, head of the Hungarian Air Travel Association (Malért) told Magyar Nemzet that a newly formed group has begun talks with investors. He confirmed that his group has had talks with Tamás Déri."
