Áder Remains Favorite For Presidency In Hungary Despite Rebuffs To PM Orbán
"Fidesz MEP János Áder has not yet accepted Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s request to accept nomination for the post of president, Népszabadság has learnt from a reliable source. However, Áder is the most likely candidate for the post, according to the newspaper. Áder told Origo on Tuesday that any question of his nomination is premature.

An unidentified source close to Orbán said the prime minister would prefer Speaker László Kövér as head of state.

Áder could accept the nomination, but has not yet given an unequivocal answer, Magyar Hírlap reports.

He may be present when the Fidesz executive meets on Friday morning, according to Magyar Nemzet.

Other potential nominees are National Resources Minister Miklós Réthelyi, former prime minister Péter Boross, deputy Speaker Sándor Lezsák, Academy of Sciences president József Pálinkás, former Academy president Szilveszter E. Vizy and ambassador to the US György Szapáry."
