Top 10 Near To Hungary Destinations, Part I
"This week, since it’s spring break at my daughter’s school, I decided to let you in on my favorite places to go in the “neighborhood” of Hungary. Why not Hungarian destinations? I’ll save that for another week when you might be planning just a weekend getaway. Some of these are near enough for a weekend, some worth a longer trip…

1. Vienna

Of course! Vienna is nice any time of the year. I could write a whole week of posts about Vienna alone. But since you may have already been there, and the sights are well known, here are three places worth going with kids…

The Sound Museum, www.hdm.at, where you can roll dice to play a melody and conduct the Vienna Philharmonic – the musicians actually play to the tempo you dictate! The Museum of Natural History. Dinosaurs. Need to know more?

And finally, Minopolis, a tiny city for kids – my son’s favorite was putting out a fire with real water! Kids can also be a police officer solving a robbery, a journlist interviewing people, or a garbage collector emptying recyling bins and sorting items… Enjoy!

2. Rovinj – this is one of the most charming towns I’ve ever been to, and was a pleasant surprise even though we went there on the way back from a trip through the villages of Tuscany!

We loved it so much when we were there with the kids that I quickly booked a weekend getaway for just the two of us, for just two weeks later! The pictures say it all, and you can get there in about 6 hours on a Friday night, meaning you’re sipping white wine and having a lite seafood meal at 11 p.m. on a cobblestone square steps away from the Adriatic…

With kids, you could go in summer to a nearby camping village or rent an apartment, walking or biking along the waterfront for hours and taking a day to tour Rovinj…

More tomorrow…"
