Hungarian Medical Office Raises Heat Alert
The State Medical Office on Tuesday stepped up the heat alert in effect for the whole country to third degree – the highest – and extended the alert until midnight Friday. The statement said temperatures are forecast to reach 33-36C today and up to 37C on Thursday.

The highest degree alert is imposed when the temperature may rise to 27C over three consecutive days.

Both the National Disaster Control and the Medical Office are encouraging everyone to drink as much liquid as possible during the heat wave, to refrain from staying in the sun between 11 a.m., and 3 p.m., and to protect their skin from harm by wearing appropriate clothing and applying sun lotions.

New daily heat records were set on Tuesday, as 35.5C was gauged in Bugac, Bács county and 34.8C in Budapest.
