Traffic Restrictions In Budapest Castle Due To Renovations
As the renovation of the Buda Castle’s roads continue, the castle’s main entrance will be closed from road traffic as of 3 September (Monday). Road traffic and public transport changes are expected. In connection with the renovation of the roads at Buda Castle, the gate at Bécsi kapu tér will be closed between 3 September (Monday) and 11 September (Tuesday). Read on for more details.

The following road traffic changes are expected:

• Bécsi kapu (northern gate from Széll Kálmán tér) will be closed for the entire period.
• Országház utca will be closed from road traffic except for public transport and construction related use. Cars will be able to reach Szentháromság tér via the bi-directional Fortuna utca.
• Kard utca will be one-way to the direction of Fortuna utca after the reconstruction.

As a result of the traffic changes, buses 16 and 16A will be divided and serve different route sections from 3 September (Monday) until service closure of 11 September (Tuesday) as follows:

• Between Széll Kálmán tér M and Lovas út (Bécsi kapu) temporary terminus: Buses 16 and 16A run a combined service called as 16B. Bus 116 runs between Fény utcai piac and Lovas út (Bécsi kapu).

• Bus 16 runs between Deák Ferenc tér M and Bécsi kapu tér, with a temporary terminus at Dísz tér. Országház utca will be opened again to road traffic, so the buses will be able to run on their original route in both directions from Bécsi kapu tér. Bus 16 will use the following stops inside Buda Castle:
* Dísz tér: the original stop in the direction of Bécsi kapu tér
*  Szentháromság tér: the original stop in the direction of Bécsi kapu tér
*  Bécsi kapu tér: temporary terminus in front of the junction at Nádor utca
*  Kapisztrán tér: the original stop in the direction of Deák Ferenc tér M
*  Szentháromság tér: the original stop in the direction of Deák Ferenc tér M
*  Dísz tér: the original stop in the direction of Deák Ferenc tér M

• Bus 16A runs between Dísz tér and Bécsi kapu tér, which is served by the following stops:
o Dísz tér: the original stop in the direction of Bécsi kapu tér
o Szentháromság tér: the original stop in the direction of Bécsi kapu tér
o Bécsi kapu tér: temporary terminus in front of the junction at Nádor utca
o Kapisztrán tér: the original stop in the direction of Dísz tér
o Szentháromság tér: the original stop in the direction of Dísz tér
o Dísz tér: the terminus of the buses in front of the address 16 Dísz tér
Walking is the only optiom between the two stops on both sides of Bécsi kapu, as the buses cannot cross the gate itself.

BKK’s aim is to ensure that the reconstruction is causing the least amount of problems. We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.
