Invitation: 'The Theatre Of Life Exhibition', By Zaid S Sethi, Budapest, 24 Nov
- 24 Nov 2012 8:00 AM
"Zaid Sethi is a writer and photographic artist from London who specialises in portraits of people in the arts, combining his passion for both art and photography. When not seeking to capture something special in people, he spends his time looking for images of urban life that make ordinary streets, in ordinary cities, extraordinary.
Inspired by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and his philosophy of capturing the decisive moment, for Zaid, that decisive moment is not about great events that move the world, but a personal celebration of humanity by each one us as actors in the Theatre of Life. Together, we offer the world our very public performances as we socialise, engage with our environment, or suffer moments of private reflection and, by doing so, rejoice in the experience of life.
Earlier this year he took part in the Derkovits Scholarship exhibition at the Ernst Museum showing portraits of winners of the scholarship and, in the summer, took part in a group exhibition at the Rakoczifalva Bocs D’Art Galeria with photographers Peter Pal Bohus, Viktor Marosi and sculptor Gabor Miklos Szoke.
Born in Pakistan, he moved with his parents to London when he was a year old. He has spent the last 17 years living and working in Central Asia, the Caucuses and Russia, and came to Budapest six years ago.
His writing career started as a poet in the UK where he was widely published in magazines and newspapers. His first book, ‘Solitude’ was a collection of poems which was followed by two collections of short stories; The End of the World, and his latest book published earlier this year, 'The Dream of Angels & Other Stories, both of which are distributed by Alexandra in Hungary, Amazon, and Waterstones in the UK. Two of his stories appeared in the recent issue of Pilvax Magazine. His first novel is expected to be published next year. He also recently wrote and directed a one act dinner play, 'The Affair'.
The fine art archive pigment prints, also known as giclee prints, that form this exhibition have been made using fade-resistant, archival inks and are printed on semi-matt exhibition quality paper. Each photograph is initialled by the artist and dated on the passepartout.
We hope you enjoy the exhibition. "
