Hungarian Banks Refuse To Meet Doubravszky

The Bank Association refused to attend a meeting with financial rights ombudsman György Doubravszky on Tuesday, saying there was little sign of adequate preparation. Doubravszky sent a three line proposal on Monday asking the banks to clarify the definition of a foreign-currency loan. The association sent him text of the relevant laws with explanations, said spokeswoman Ágnes Sütõ.
The Bank Association then concluded that the talks would be a waste of time.
The banks stressed that they are ready for well-prepared talks, which would include representatives of the Economy Ministry and other professional organisations.
It seems that Doubravszky has been left in a power vacuum since György Matolcsy left the Economy Ministry, Napi Gazdaság comments.
