Former Agents In Hungary To Lose Extra Pension
The government will deprive over 100 former ‘III/III’ domestic security agents and their heirs of their pension supplement, said Justice Ministry state secretary Bence Rétvári. The ministry has investigated around 1,000 people who received state decorations in the communist regime and were thus entitled to pension supplement.

Rétvári said 109 of these are now deemed undeserving of their pension supplement, and will no longer receive it from August onwards.

Those who were found to be instrumental in dismantling the democratic state between 1945 and 1949, who played a part in crushing the 1956 Uprising, were leading officials in the Hungarian Socialist Workers Party and the Communist Youth League, or have a secret-service past, stand to lose Ft 8-16,000 a month.

LMP co-president András Schiffer called on Administration and Justice Minister Tibor Navracsics to explain the grounds on which the government intends to deprive one-time state party agents and their successors of their pension supplement.

Jobbik, meanwhile, called the move a half-hearted solution, as it believes that thousands of people, rather than a hundred or so, should be stripped of their pension supplement.
