Judge Issues Three Life Sentences For Roma Murders In Hungary
The Budapest Regional Court yesterday sentenced the three main defendants to lifetime prison terms and the fourth to 13 years for the serial murders of six Roma in 2008 and 2009. Árpád Kiss, his brother István and Zsolt Pet were convicted of premeditated murder, and the fourth defendant István Csontos, who was their driver, for acting as an accomplice.

None of the three killers will be eligible for parole. They were also ordered to pay more than Ft 30 million in trial costs, and the fourth defendant Ft 6 million.

Judge László Miszori said the defendants killed out of racist motives, as they had decided to take action against “Gypsy crime”.

It is morally unacceptable that anyone would forge an alliance to “enforce law and order” against a minority, he added.

The judge noted that István Kiss and Pet advocated extremist national socialist ideas and took part in skinhead groups.
