Budapest is also among the cities where the event is being held every year since 2001. Worldwide the initiative is organized by the World Carfree Network (WCN) the aim is to show how our cities would look, feel, and sound without cars.
This year between 21-22 September the Hungarian Champs-Élysées alias Andrássy Avenue will welcome enthusiastic participants who are willing to try out various games, an adult football match, plus there are activities for kids at a spacious kindergarten. And for those in need of a rest there will be a special “Green island” set up all along the avenue.
Saturday evening will end with the traditional Bringások Éjszakája (Night of Bikers) race starting at 6pm on Erzsébet Square. Sunday will continue with some cultural and theatrical performances. All the events are free of charge, but an online registration for some is highly recommended due to limited space.
Also vintage vehicle lovers will be happy to see old trams and trolleybuses, which are available for rides.
