NYT Mentions Pécs Among Top Destinations
The New York Times draws a list of the most beautiful and exciting destinations of the world every year and this year Pécs, Baranya County, the only Hungarian city on the list has taken 38th place.

On the list of 46 destinations Pécs ranks higher than Congo, Ireland, Paris, Casablanca, Washington or the Falkland Islands. The newspaper awards top place to Rio de Janeiro and second and third place to Marseille and Nicaragua.

The NYT praises Pécs’s medley of different architectural styles, the buildings decorated with baroque carvings and artistic monuments that date back to Hungary’s occupation by the Turks. It speaks highly of the architectural projects of the year of 2010, when Pécs was “Capital of Culture of Europe”. Mention is made of the Kodály concert center, the Zsolnay district, the refurbished streets and squares.
