Scheduled Flight Arrives at Pecs Airport in SE Hungary after 18-Year Hiatus
Scheduled flights have officially resumed at Pécs‑Pogány Airport (IATA: PEV) after an 18‑year hiatus, marking a major milestone for southwestern Hungary and the city of Pécs. On Monday, 30 March 2026, the first regular scheduled service landed at the airport from Munich, operated by Danish Air Transport (DAT) under the SkyHub PAD project, restoring Pécs to the European commercial‑air‑travel map.

Flight details and operator

The Pécs–Munich route is operated by DAT using an ATR 72‑600 regional turboprop, with a scheduled flight time of about 1 hour 30–50 minutes.

SkyHub PAD will run the service twice weekly in each direction between 30 March and 22 October 2026, linking Pécs with Munich’s large hub so passengers can connect onward across Lufthansa’s global network.

Political and regional significance

Levente Magyar, deputy minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, highlighted the arrival of the first scheduled flight as a turning point for the whole Baranya county and southern Transdanubia, not just the city itself.

Local leaders, including Mayor Attila Péterffy, have framed the relaunch as a long‑term project, with a four‑year operation horizon in mind, aiming to make the route economically sustainable and to draw more tourists and business travelers to Pécs.

Context: 18‑year break

Pécs‑Pogány had previously lost its scheduled passenger services years ago; by 2025 some earlier scheduled routes were already cancelled, leaving the airport without regular commercial flights.

The Munich–Pécs service in 2026 is therefore the first scheduled line to resume after 18 years of no regular passenger operations, giving the airport a renewed role in regional connectivity.
