How Hungary’s Main Parties Will Celebrate March 15 Holiday
The opposition alliance (Together 2014, Dialogue for Hungary, Hungarian Socialist Party, Hungarian Liberal Party, and the Democratic Coalition) will hold celebrations on Szabad Sajto Street in Budapest this Saturday, March 15, the anniversary of the outbreak of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. Organizers invite all those who would like to see peace, freedom and solidarity restored in Hungary. The event’s MC will be Janos Kulka, and ATV will be providing live coverage from 3-4.10pm.

2.30pm – Arrival, “warm-up”, and a VJ show

3pm – National anthem and a recitation of Sandor Petofi’s “National Song” (the poem many believe inspired the Hungarian revolt)

3.10pm – Speech by former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsany (Democratic Coalition)

3.20pm – Speech by Timea Szabo (Dialogue for Hungary)

3.30pm – Speech by Gabor Fodor (Hungarian Liberal Party)

3.40pm – Speech by Gordon Bajnai (Egyutt 2014-Dialogue for Hungary)

3.50pm – Speech by Attila Mesterhazy (Hungarian Socialist Party)

4pm – Playing of the opposition’s campaign song

Fidesz

Fidesz festivities will take place at three separate locations on Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

9am – Raising of the Hungarian flag at the newly remodelled Kossuth Square. Following this, participants will march to the gardens of the National Museum.

10.30am – Remembrance ceremony in the museum gardens. Prime Minister Viktor Orban will deliver a speech. Following the ceremony participants will march to the Buda Castle.

10.00am-5pm – National holiday to be celebrated with “tradition-protecting” activities in the Buda Castle. There will be talent contests for children, arts and crafts, and cockade making, plus Hungarian ethnic music, dance lessons and exhibitions.

Jobbik

1pm – Jobbik’s Budapest chapter will hold a remembrance ceremony at Kodaly Korond.

2.pm – Huszar cavalry will lead participants to the main event location at Deak Square.

3.pm – Main event with speeches by Tamas Sneider, Janos Volner, Daniel Z. Karpat and party chairman Gabor Vona. There will be a free concert after the speeches with a special performance by Hungarian rock band Lord.
